Pigs

We sell our pigs (either a half or whole pig) for $3 per pound plus butchering.

We will have our next harvest late June 2010.

Would you like to come watch one, learn, participate?

Let us know!

A gutted pig has about 210 pounds of meat and bone. That's a half a pig hanging to the right.

We have learned to slaughter our own pigs. It's a very interesting experience, and we enjoy sharing the experience with others.

How'd we get into raising pigs? In summer 2008, we were thinking about raising animals for food, when Neil and Emily got a pair of piglets as wedding presents. So there we were. We read whatever we could find about raising pigs naturally, talked to neighbors, and just jumped in. We have since raised a few sets of piglets, so we're getting some experience with them.
We feed our pigs with a mix of grain and leftover food. In fact, a local restaurant gives us their leftovers. During the warm months, the pigs live outside in a pen with a shelter and get to root around and play, while at the same time helping us by digging up rocks and tree roots. During the cold months, they live in the barn.
