Emus
 |
We bought two breeding pairs of emus in spring 2008. They were 1-2 weeks old, and they've
really grown since then. We feed them mostly grain, and they also get other sorts of food (veggies, meat).
|
|
They should start laying eggs any time now (winter 2009-10), and next year the eggs should
be fertilized. At that time, we will be harvesting the new chicks, after they grow, for meat and oil.

Emus like fences. They're also really hardy -- even though they originated in Australia, they
deal with our New Hampshire winters with no problem. We provide a shelter for them, where we also store
their food.
